Letters from Santa!

Special Delivery!  No, not the white stuff falling from the sky...but a package from Santa.  Wow, that was quick.   After lunch today, the kids were thrilled to hear that Santa's letters had arrived. We didn't waste any time and had them all passed out in no time.  Santa wrote a special message to each child at the bottom of each letter.  He answered some of the questions they asked him and commented on their favourite things and wish lists.  He acknowledged the great things they've been doing to stay on the 'nice' list.  The kids had lots of fun sharing their letters with each other.  Thank you Canada Post and Santa!

Letters to Santa

Last Tuesday we read Zoe's Christmas List, by Chloe and Mick Inkpen.  The story got the children thinking about writing their own letters to Santa.  First, they spent some time planning and organizing their ideas.  The next day, they were excited and ready to get writing.  The letters were collected and sealed in an envelope destined for Santa Claus at the North Pole.  The children are now anxiously awaiting letters back from the man in the red suit.  Also, a special thank you to Clare for bringing in more Zoe and Beans books to share with the class!

Catching Snowflakes

Check out the adorable portraits the class made of themselves catching snowflakes.  I saw this project on Pinterest and thought it was too cute not to try!  There were quite a few steps involved, including drawing, cutting and pasting.  It took us a few days to finish.  We tackled a couple of steps each day until every last snowflake had fallen into place.  I just love them.  Now we wait for the white stuff to fall so we can practice catching snowflakes for real!

The class made these ultra cute penguins with Ms. Morgan on Wednesday.  We will be studying penguins over the next couple of weeks at school.  Stay tuned for penguin facts...coming soon!

Happy Hanukkah

Last week to commence the first day of Hanukkah, Lia brought in a few special things to share with the class.  She showed us the menorah, a nine branched candelabra, that is lit on each of the eight days of Hanukkah.  She also brought a colourful assortment of dreidels, which are spinning tops, for playing games.  Each top has four sides and is usually made of wood or plastic.  Lia told us that each side of the dreidel has a Hebrew letter marked on it.  During Centres (free play) Lia let her friends spin the dreidels.  This was a popular activity this week.  Thank you for sharing Lia!
